Tyler Haws (born April 11, 1991) is an American basketball player who plays for Obradoiro CAB of Spain's Liga ACB. Haws was a standout high school basketball player, becoming the all-time leading scorer (1,772 points) at his school, being twice named Utah's Mr. Basketball, and winning Utah's Gatorade Player of the Year. At Brigham Young University (BYU), Haws was named the 2014 West Coast Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year.

Born in Belgium, Haws grew up in Alpine, Utah before attending Lone Peak High School in Highland, Utah from 2005 to 2009. As a sophomore in 2006–07, he averaged 18.8 points per game, led the state in free-throws made with 129, and shot 81.6% from the free-throw line, with the team winning the state championship. Following the state championship game, Haws was named the 5A State Tournament MVP and later won the 5A MVP award. As a junior in 2007–08, he averaged 20.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game as he helped Lone Peak with the state championship for a second straight year.^[1] He won the Tournament MVP again as well asUtah's Mr. Basketball. On a national level, he won Utah's Gatorade Player of the Year, and became a finalist for the national award. Lone Peak also finished the year ranked 15th nationally according to Maxpreps.com. At the T-Mobile Invitational against Georgia's Centennial High School, Haws scored 26 points.

Haws played with Salt Lake Metro in the summer AAU circuits,^[3] as well as with his high school sponsored AAU team, Lone Peak. In the 2008 Houston Kingwood Classic, Haws led Salt Lake Metro into the round of 16, scoring 35 points against California powerhouse Compton Magic.^[4] He also led the Lone Peak AAU team to the round of 8 in the Las Vegas Spring Showcase a week later. Haws appeared in USA Today and Sports Illustrated in 2007.^[5]

Haws was recruited by Wake Forest, BYU, Utah, Stanford, Cal, Harvard, Penn, Marquette, UCLA, Pepperdine, USC, and Davidson.^[1] He committed to play collegiately at BYU and signed his letter of intent on November 12, 2008.^[6]

As a senior in 2008–09, Haws averaged 23.6 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.^[1] He set 21 school records as a senior and finished his career with 1,772 points tied for 10th in Utah state history, and the most ever by a 5A player in Utah. While coming up short in the quest for three straight 5A state titles, Haws won a second consecutive Mr. Basketball Award.^[7] He was selected to play in both the Senior Showcase High School All-Star Weekend as well as the Academic All-American Classic.

Arnold Henry Glasow was born in Fond-du-lac, Wisconsin, USA, in 1905, and died in Freeport, Illinois in 1998 age 93. He graduated from Ripon College, and started his own business when he moved to Freeport just after the Great Depression. His business was a humour magazine that he marketed to firms nationally, which firms would turn into their own "House Organ" to send to their own customers. He ran this business for over sixty years but didn't publish his first book until aged 92. The book was titled "Glasow's Gloombusters", one of the many titles he put to his work during his career. He was cited frequently in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, the Chicago Tribune and many other major publications. He was a regular contributor to the humour sections of Reader's Digest. Sixty years of productive work. Many accolades. A real American thinker, self-effacing and generous of spirit, he shunned the national spotlight.

Thirty years ago, students who entered the workforce right out of high school could still get a well-paying job that allowed entry to the middle class. That time has passed. Finding and keeping a job that pays well requires higher-order thinking skills—those that we want every LAUSD student to learn. We want our LAUSD graduates to be ready for the 21st century workplace by making the high school diploma a document that gives students the choice to transition straight into a California 4-year college or into a career.

LAUSD will implement the new graduation requirements in two phases, beginning with the Class of 2016 by:

• Raising the standards for LAUSD graduates by moving forward with implementation of A-G college-prep requirements for LAUSD graduation as adopted in 2005.

• Reestablishing the minimum number of credits to graduate from 230 to 210 (including Health) so students have more chances to prepare for and pass A-G courses. 

• Raising the current passing grade for A-G courses to a “C” or better for the graduating Class of 2017 and beyond so students who apply to any public California university can automatically be considered for admission.
